Jowar (sorghum) flakes chivda

A bowl of crunchy and tasty for any time of the day. Chivda is always enjoyed better with, before or after tea or coffee. Now prepare this healthy gluten free Chivda at home and welcome your guests to enjoy evening tea.

Preparation time: 15 Minutes

Cooking time: Just gets ready in 10 minutes

Serving: Per Person


  •  Jowar flakes
  • Groundnut
  • Chili powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Amchur powder
  • Coriander
  • Jeera (cumin)
  • Tejpatta (bay leaves)
  • Ajjwain
  • Dry ginger
  • Cloves
  • Cardamom
  • Sugar
  • Curry leaves
  • Rock salt
  • Oil


  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, curry leaves. Wait until they sizzle, then toss in ground nuts. Stir for a minute.
  2.  Keep on very low heat and stir in the chili powder, turmeric powder, amchur power, chivda masala, sugar and salt.( if chivda masala is not using then dry roast all other mentioned ingredients and then grind into fine powder).
  3. Finally gently fold in the jowar flakes over low heat for about 3-4 minutes until the flakes  are well coated with the spice blend. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container at room temperature.
